To solidly advance the application process for national-level research projects and enhance the quality of project submissions, the School of Foreign Languages held Expert Review Session for National Social Science Project Proposals (NSSPP) on the morning of March 9. The event featured distinguished review experts including Professor Huang Hui, Director of the Social Sciences Department at Jiangxi Normal University; Professor Jiang Chonghui, Deputy Director of the Research Office of JUFE; and Professor Zeng Jianping, former Vice Dean of School of Foreign Languages, JUFE. Seven faculty members, together with several academic backbone members of the school participated in the session. The meeting was chaired by Vice Dean Du Jingping, who emphasized that this review seminar is a crucial initiative by the school to implement national research planning and address strategic national needs. The goal is to leverage expert insights to help application teams refine their research topics, strengthen theoretical foundations, and highlight innovative value, aiming for breakthroughs in applications for projects such as the National Social Science Fund and the Ministry of Education’s Humanities and Social Sciences programs.
During the meeting, seven principal investigators presented their research directions, including topics such as The Washback Effect of Interpretation Qualification Testing and The Translation of Ancient Chinese Female Poets’ Works. They elaborated on the rationale for their topics, research frameworks, innovative aspects, and expected outcomes. The review experts provided targeted suggestions based on the latest disciplinary trends and national policy directions. They emphasized that foreign language research should align closely with national needs for cultural dissemination and mutual learning among civilizations, deepening interdisciplinary integration in areas such as Area Studies, Discourse System Construction, and Digital Humanities. The faculty members applying for the projects engaged in in-depth discussions with the experts on key issues such as research methodology design and theoretical paradigm breakthroughs, fostering a vibrant academic atmosphere.
In his concluding remarks, Du Jingping stressed that the school will continue to refine its “Application-Review-Project Launch” comprehensive research support mechanism, strengthen organized research efforts, and promote the coordinated development of discipline construction and talent cultivation. It is reported that the school has already held two rounds of project reviewing activities this year, with several projects approved and funded at the provincial level or above, contributing the intellectual strength of the foreign language discipline to regional economic and social development.
