SFL Granted a Fifth National Social Sciences Fund Chinese Academic Translation Project

Recently, with the approval of the National Office for Philosophy and Social Sciences, Professor Li Chunchang from the School of Foreign Languages successfully applied for the English translation project of History of Chinese Field System in the 2023-2024 National Social Sciences Fund Chinese Academic Translation Project (a total of 257 projects was approved nationwide). This is the 5th successful application from the School of Foreign Languages of our university in recent years, ranking first in Jiangxi province in terms of total approved projects and leading among universities featuring finance and economics, demonstrating the strength of the School in discipline construction, especially in the research of translation theory and practice.

The History of Chinese Field System is the research achievement of Mr. Wan Guoding, a famous agricultural historian, the main founder and pioneer of Chinese agricultural history discipline. The book systematically elaborates the evolution of China's field system and its land resource utilization and management from ancient times to the Yuan Dynasty in chronological order. The widely cited book has been highly praised by scholars such as Hu Shi and is a must-read reference for domestic and foreign research on ancient Chinese agriculture, field, and taxation issues.

Professor Li Chunchang's project to translate The History of Chinese Field System into English will introduce to the world the classic and outstanding achievements of China in the field of agricultural history research. This will help foreign agricultural and economic historians to further enhance the understanding of China's ancient field system, land reforms, farmer conditions, and agricultural development. It will also shed light on the unique path of China's field system and its impact on modern Chinese economic development and agricultural production. This project will help elevate the status of Chinese agricultural economic history research in the international academic community, allowing Chinese academic works to better engage with the global academic community.

The Chinese Academic Translation Project was established in 2010 and is one of the main categories of the National Social Sciences Fund project. It mainly funds academic works representing the academic standards of China, embodying the essence of Chinese culture, reflecting the forefront of Chinese academia, to be published in foreign languages by authoritative foreign publishing institutions and enter mainstream distribution channels abroad. The project aims to deepen academic exchanges and dialogues between China and the rest of the world, strengthen the international influence and discourse power of Chinese academia, and continuously enhance the country's cultural soft power.
