Professor Wang Lifei Delivers a Lecture for SFL

On the afternoon of October 21, 2023, professor Wang Lifei, from Beijing Language and Culture University(BLCU), was invited to deliver a lecture on the topic of The Development Principle and Assessment Measure of Inter-disciplinary Business English Major at the School of Foreign Language(SFL). Hosted by Du Jingping, deputy dean of the SFL, the lecture was attended by Dean Zhang Xifeng, deputy dean Zhang Shanjun, professor Chen Haihua and professor Liu Youfa, together with teachers from the Department of Business English and some postgraduate students.

Professor Wang began the lecture with a general analysis of the current situation for Inter-disciplinary Business English Major (BEM). He reckoned that for the education reform, progress must be made on the scale and quality of BEM. However, challenges brought by AI technology required foreign language education to return to putting people first, at the same time, improving abilities to think and question became the trend of reform on foreign language education.

Then, professor Wang clearly elucidated the assessment principle of IBE, which served the Chinese modernization by morality cultivation and high-quality development. Additionally, the principle was featured by digital adaptability, digital business, and culture in digital world. All these should be emphasized, as well as the curriculum system, faculty and student development.

At the end of the lecture, professor Wang offered valuable suggestions for the discipline development of SFL. He proposed that greater importance should be attached to the improvement of discipline construction, faculty development, talent cultivation and curriculum system in order to meet the new features, standards and directions of BEM. Professor Wang also highlighted the significance of discipline characteristics and development direction of BEM. With these valuable suggestions, there will be more inter-discipline talents for the country and society.

The lecturehas not only clarified the curriculum system and development direction of BEM for both teachers and students, but also inspired students to explore inter-discipline knowledge and cultivate humanistic qualities, and finally become inter-disciplinary talents.
