Romanian Professor Steve O. Michael gives a lecture at SFL
On the afternoon of October 21, 2023, Professor Steve O. Michael from Danubius University of Romania gave a lecture for SFL teachers and students. The lecture’s theme was: Role in Advancing Globalization of Higher Education: A USA Model.
Dr. Steve O. Michael is Rector and CEO of Danubius University, Romania where he has been the Vice President of the University’s Board of Trustees since 2015. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Michael was the Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Sciences.
The lecture was hosted by the Dean Zhang Xifeng and attended by more than 100 teachers and students.In the beginning, Professor Michael previewed the lecture from four aspects: the significance of global leadership, global citizenship, global scholar and global leadership, which generated keen interests among teachers and students.Then, Dr. Michael explained the importance of global leadership from the perspective of current major world events, future world scenario, and the Belt and Road Initiative. He pointed out that the world today is facing many threats, such as artificial intelligence, climate change, and so on. However, the Belt and Road Initiative can closely connect many countries and promote cooperation in many aspects, which is of great significance to the whole world’s development.
After that, Dr. Michael talked about requirements to become a global citizen and scholar, such as broad and deep knowledge base and cross-cultural communication skills. Finally, Dr. Michael pointed out the connotation of global citizenship and its four levels. And he said that university education is an important part to promote global leadership, and universities should strive to achieve the globalization of education, research and publication.During the Q & A session, teachers and students actively asked questions. Dr. Michael earnestly answered the questions, such as "How to tell China's story better" and "How to cultivate global leadership in practice". Teachers and students have benefited a lot from it. After the lecture was concluded, Dean Zhang Xifeng expressed gratitude to Dr. Michael for his wonderful speech on behalf of the school and gave a summary of it. After the lecture, all the participants took a group photo together in front of Yinglu.
